Fruit Loops Hit the Spot!

Interview someone — a friend, another blogger, your mother, the mailman — and write a post based on their responses.

This interview (i.e. conversation) happened just this morning with my soon-to-be four-year old daughter. She had been awake for about ten minutes or so. She had requested the T.V. on so she could watch some of her cartoons. I had obliged this request. She was sitting in her mommy’s chair, when she made her second request.

Dad, she said in a sleepish, half-yawning tone.

Yes baby, I answered back, What do you want now?

Dad, I’m hungry. (Both my girls love breakfast!)

You are, I replied, But, why are you hungry? (I thought it would be fun to play along with this for a bit. She has a way of putting things in a way only she can put them!)

Dad, she said as she grabbed her stomach, I’m hungry because my tummy is racking!

Your tummy is, eh racking? (This was the first time I had heard of a racking tummy!)

Yes, dad, she said in an exasperated tone. (Obviously, I had dropped the ball by not knowing what a racking tummy was!)

Well baby, what do you mean your tummy is racking, I was now seeking some clarification.

Dad, I’m hungry because my tummy is racking, she paused, then she continued to explain further. I guess she could tell dear old dad was not catching on just yet. Your tummy starts to rack when it gets hungry. Then it racks and racks and racks.

I see, I said nodding my head, so, you’re hungry because your tummy is racking?

Yes dad, she replied, I need something to eat.

Okay, baby, would you like some cereal, I questioned? She and her little sister love cereal!

Yes dad, she said, jumping up from the chair.

Do you want some Fruit Loops?

Yes, Fruit Loops, she exclaimed, running to the kitchen table!

I can now report this story had a happy ending! She ate the whole bowl of Fruit Loops and, apparently, her tummy is no longer racking!
