Thoughts on Holy Week

Have you ever become obsessed with something? Tell us about something that captivates your attention like nothing else.

This is an interesting prompt for this day/week. I have mentioned in several of my recent posts that my mind has been contemplating the last week of Christ’s earthly ministry. In the liturgical calendar, today marks the first day of what is called Holy Week. Holy Week is the designation of the final week of Christ leading to his betrayal, mock trial, passion and crucifixion and, a week from today, Resurrection Sunday (Easter Sunday). For Christians, this is the most solemn and important of all weeks.  Read the rest of this entry »

Fame, Fortune and the Way of Christ

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/when-will-i-be-loved/

Have you dreamt of becoming famous? What would your claim to fame be? Comedy? Acting? Writing? Race car driving? Go!

I have never really had a desire to be famous. I would not care for the attention. I enjoy being able to walk outside without it making the National Enquirer’s front page. I like being able to go to the market without a slew of Paparazzi jumping out from around the corner. I enjoy not seeing pictures of me plastered on TMZ or ET or the like. A Little R&R Does the Body Good!

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/have-you-never-been-mellow/

After a long day at work or school, what are your favorite ways to wind down and decompress?

Decompression, yes, well, it sounds like something rather painful! Maybe it is just too early in the morning. We all have need to unwind or wind down after a long day. The problem often is that the day does not end after work or school. You go home and you have tasks and chores to do there. You have clothes to wash or dinners to cook or floors to sweep or roofs to mend . . . on and on we could go. Read the rest of this entry »

Jesus and “the Man”

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/04/10/daily-prompt-fight-the-power/

Tell us about a time when you fought authority and took a stand against “the man.” Did you win?

I do not know that I would define anything I have ever done as taking a stand against the man. I mean, does refusing to eat mystery meat on Thursdays in the high school cafeteria when I was a junior count? Probably not.

My problem with causes is I always find something intrinsic to the cause with which I do not agree. And, while I know it is not about absolute solidarity, I must confess it usually takes the wind out of my sails. Either that, or I get distracted by something else. I have found just being myself and trying to live life takes up most of my time and effort! I try to follow the apostle Paul’s wisdom and, as much as it is within me, to live peaceably with everyone. Introversion and Friendship: Mutually Exclusive?

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/04/09/prompt-cant-we-be-friends/

Do you find it easy to make new friends? Tell us how you’ve mastered the art of befriending a new person.

If I wish to make a new friend,

I simply and thoughtfully say,

Would you please−me, befriend?

If no, then I reply only to say:

Very well, I shan’t ask again,

Please go, who needs you anyway!

The truth is making friends is not something that I do well. Though, as I think more about it, this may not be entirely true. Perhaps I should amend my statement to say, keeping friends is not something I do well. Then again, that may not be quite to the point either. (I must say, this thinking as you write can be quite exhilarating!) Perhaps what I should stay instead is, keeping up with friends is not something I do well. Yes, I do think that is more to the point. Read the rest of this entry »

Procrastination and the Raising of Lazarus from the Dead

Tell us your tried and true techniques for focusing when that deadline looms and you need to get work done. In other words, how do you avoid wasted days and wasted nights?

Put quite simply, my tried and true technique is to get the job done before it is due. I know this sounds rather pedantic, but it is the truth. It is not to say I do not know how to procrastinate. Procrastination seems to be one of those traits that comes naturally to most of the race we call human. Read the rest of this entry »

Tangled Up in Blue . . .

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/04/07/daily-prompt-make-me-smile/

If you’re feeling blah, what is the one thing you do that you can count on to put a smile on your face?

This prompt reminded me of the old Phil Collins song, A Groovy Kind of Love, the particular lyrics that came to my mind were: when I’m feeling blue, all I have to do is take a look at you, then I’m not so blue.

Yes, I know it is rather sappy. Was I suppose to say romantic? Read the rest of this entry »

Seasons and Lessons of Life and Faith

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/04/06/daily-prompt-in-the-summertime/

Theoretically, summer will return to the polar-vortex-battered Northern Hemisphere. What are you looking forward to doing this summer? If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, what are your fondest memories of Summer past?

This has been quite a long, cold winter. I live in the southern part of the Northern Hemisphere. We are not used to having long, sustained winters. Winter for the southern USA is usually a couple of weeks of below 50° weather. Usually our only glimpse of snow is on television. We are used to hot, humid summers; but cold winters do not happen frequently in these parts. Read the rest of this entry »

The Creator God and His Gift to Us

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/04/05/daily-prompt-express-yourself/

Do you love to dance, sing, write, sculpt, paint, or debate? What’s your favorite way to express yourself, creatively?

Creativity is important. It is an important quality of the human race. It is one of the things that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom. No matter what form or expression it takes, creativity, and its development, is an important part of our lives. I have seen creativity discouraged. I have seen that light in the eye go dim.

Green All Over (A Poem)

We all get jealous from time to time — what wakes the green-eyed monster for you?

Mine! Mine! the selfish mantra of a child,

Such jealous frenzy drives them madly wild.
