What is Jesus Doing Now?! (Mark 2. 15-17)

So then, Jesus called Matthew (a.k.a. Levi) and he has abandoned his tax-collecting post and has followed Christ. Implied, of course, is that this is no temporary situation. This is not simply an afternoon of vacation time for Matthew, to see a miracle or two and receive some good rabbinical teaching, before returning to the ball and chain the next day. No! The Call of Levi (Mark 2. 13-14)

Here is our next pericope to consider from Mark’s gospel:

He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. (Mark 2.13-14, ESV)

The Healing of the Paralytic Pt. 3 (Mark. 2. 1-12)

In today’s post, we will conclude our conversation of the healing of the paralytic. It is a fascinating account of Jesus’ power and ministry, especially in his early days of ministry in the northern region of Galilee. It also foreshadows the conflict that will continue to escalate between Jesus and the religious elite.

The Healing of the Paralytic Pt. 2 (Mark 2. 1-12)

Yesterday, we covered the first part of the pericope found in Mark 2.1-12. Today we will look again at this pericope. This pericope details the event of Jesus healing the paralytic. In yesterday’s post, we discussed how the four men carrying the paralytic removed part of the roof, so they could lower him down to Jesus.
